The “Eternal Now”

Working with a friend back in 1988, when she heard the demo version of this song, she thought it was beautiful. It started off as a love song to a guy I was dating in New England. I had entered a contest with another song (which I’ve yet to find in my box of cassettes), and won! The prize was recording two songs at a 24-track studio in Boston. By the time the studio was ready to have me come in, I’d broken up with the man I’d written the song about. My lady friend, with whom I’ve lost touch, asked me if I was certain I wanted to record the original lyrics.
At the time, I was practicing techniques of breathwork and invocation taught to me by a spiritual mentor that required my full concentration, and therefore, stopped doing all recreational mind-altering substances, paramount being alcohol. During a meditation one day outside in a grassy field with dandelions here and there, a bumblebee landed on my hand. I’m usually terrified of insects with stingers. But that day I wasn’t afraid. It was as though the bee was talking to me, saying that he had to collect pollen for his queen for her to strengthen her collective consciousness to make all her workers happy for no other reason than happiness itself. That little creature was the living embodiment of the “Eternal Now.” It had insight inside, feeling alright over here with all fears dissipating, my fears as well.
I told my lady friend about this joyous occasion a few days later. I certainly thought she’d think I was insane. Her reflection came as a stream of consciousness.”Peter, that queen is a female who looks within and knows just how to be. She opens up her eyes inside and told you what she sees through her worker bee. Loving her hive for as long as she lived was her purpose before she could ascend to higher consciousness. Even bees have their next step in evolution.” There was a time I thought my friend was ever divine. On her way to the heavens, I’m not sure what a bee’s path is. But whatever it was, I learned something that day. Bees live in an eternal now. It’s so simple and harmonious.
I know it, feel it, try to live, I really should know how by now. Starlight, dark night, candlelight everywhere, the senses stimulate; all night, all bright, every night, all the time our fears dissipate as we climb higher and ascend into the Eternal Now.

Very inspiring and thoughtful concerning the human condition, such as it is. Great music accentuates the lyrics, as they steal the show! Good stuff Brother-Man!- Kim ‘Kimbo’ Groff, Keltstache Music
Awesome!!
Most kind of you, Kimbo. I appreciate your thoughtful comment. It’s weird to say that I wrote this over 30 years ago and still feel the same way. Although, I occasionally shy away from bees if there are too many in one place.
Thank you. ๐
